VIDEO: How to measure the impact of AI investment

Two senior members of APG’s real estate team discuss how they assess the performance of their digital colleague Samuel.

In Q1 2023, APG Asset Management reached a key milestone in the development of its digital portfolio manager, named Samuel, whose origins date back seven years to the start of APG’s digitalization of its real estate business.

The Dutch pension investor’s team of 55 real estate portfolio managers could now communicate directly with Samuel, due to the the incorporation of large language models into its artificial intelligence strategy.

In this video, viewers have the opportunity to see Samuel in conversation with senior quantitative portfolio manager Kevin van der Wees, one of seven data scientists on the real estate team.

Samuel’s impact on the real estate team’s investment decision-making is discussed between global real estate investment strategy Rutger van der Lubbe and van der Wees. They also talk about what metrics they use to evaluate the performance of their digital colleague and reveal the initial culture shift required for the real estate team to accept Samuel.
