VIDEO: The value of mentoring in private markets

Having a network of mentors can provide support and opportunities for career development, says Ropes & Gray’s Isabel Dische.

In July, PEI Media launched its inaugural Women of Influence in Private Markets list, celebrating 60 trailblazers working across alternative assets.

Many of the women on the list are involved in mentoring initiatives, offering support and guidance to other women within their firms and their wider networks.

In this video, we catch up with Isabel Dische, an asset management partner and co-head of the institutional investor team at law firm Ropes & Gray, and one of the professionals recognized in the cross asset class category of this year’s Women of Influence in Private Markets list.

Dische is joined by her colleague, Ropes & Gray counsel Laura Hirst, to share their experiences of working together and explain how supportive relationships in the workplace can contribute to career development.

Watch the video to learn more about how mentoring schemes can help increase the number of women at senior levels in the private funds industry, to discover some top tips for successful mentoring relationships and to hear Dische’s advice to other professionals who are thinking of taking on a mentor-style role.

As Dische notes: “The more we can all invest in each other, the more enjoyable these jobs are and the more growth we all have.”
