EXCLUSIVE: Poon joins M3 Capital Partners

Charade Poon has taken on the role of director at the real estate investment and advisory firm after an almost nine-year stint at China Resources Group’s private equity real estate business.

Charade Poon has joined the real estate investment and advisory firm M3 Capital Partners as director.

PERE understands that Poon came on board last week. Based in Hong Kong, he will be part of M3 Capital’s financial advisory team in Asia, helping in capital raising efforts on behalf of Asian sponsors.

Poon comes with over ten years of experience in property investment in China and Hong Kong. He has made the move after working for almost nine years at China Resources (CR) Capital Real Estate Partners, the Hong Kong-based private equity real estate arm of the Chinese state-owned conglomerate China Resources Group. CR Capital Real Estate Partners, part of China Resources’ financial services subsidiary called CR Capital, was formerly called Harvest Capital Partners.

His most recent role at CR Capital was that of chief investment officer. Prior to that he was the firm’s director of investment and acquisitions, responsible for sourcing, executing deals and managing the firm’s investments. During his time at the firm, he is believed to have spearheaded investments totaling more than $1.7 billion.

Poon’s departure from CR Capital Real Estate Partners comes more than three years after the mass exodus of senior executives from the firm, triggered by the resignation of Rong Ren, its founder and chief executive officer in May 2012. Ren, who left because he did not agree to be part of China Resources’ plans of transitioning the firm into a multi-sector focused private equity firm, then went on to join Harvest Real Estate Investments, the real estate investment management firm jointly formed by Grosvenor and Harvest Fund Management.

CR Capital Real Estate Partners is yet to hire a replacement for Poon.
