Blackstone names head of public market activities

Joan Solotar, previously managing director and director of equity research at Bank of America Securities, will manage relations with Blackstone’s public investors.

Private equity firm The Blackstone Group announced today the hire of Joan Solotar to the position of senior director of public market activities.

In this position, created in anticipation of Blackstone’s IPO, expected later this month, Solotar will manage Blackstone’s relationships with its public investors, industry analysts and the investment community at large. She will also analyze strategic development opportunities, and advise the firm’s fund portfolio companies on their positioning in the public equity markets. Solotar begins work next week.

Solotar comes to Blackstone from Bank of America Securities, where she was a managing director and director of equity research. Before joining Bank of America, she held positions at First Boston, Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, and CSFB. Solotar has been lauded throughout her career, having been ranked regularly in Institutional Investor’s All-American Research Team and the Greenwich Survey of portfolio managers. This is Solotar’s most public role to date.

John Ford will continue to interact with the public on behalf of the private side of the firm, and senior managing director Kenneth C. Whitney will continue to manage relations with the firm’s limited partners.
