Western National appoints president of multifamily group

The Irvine, California-based firm is expanding its human capital following the initial close of its Western National Realty Fund II earlier this year.

Western National Group has hired Thomas Shelton as president of its multifamily management arm, Western National Property Management.

Prior to joining the firm, Shelton was a regional partner at Greystar Real Estate Partners. He also previously worked as regional vice president at Insignia Real Estate Group, senior vice president at Koll Management Services and senior vice president of CBS Investment Realty. Western National was not available for comment by press time.

The firm has been expanding its team of multifamily professionals. Last month it added Lynn Klug as regional vice president for business development. Klug was formerly with the multifamily property management division at Sares-Regis Group and also worked for Irvine Apartment Communities.

Irvine, California-based Western National Group focuses on the acquisition, development and management of US multifamily properties. Its divisions include the development and acquisition arm, Western National Realty Advisors; the property management arm, Western National Property Management, and the construction arm, Western National Contractors.

Earlier this year, Western National Property Management held an initial close on its Western National Realty Fund II, the firm’s second private equity fund, with more than $200 million in equity commitments. The firm’s first fund closed in 2005 on $50 million.
