Warburg Pincus hires two, promotes seven

Real estate principal Joe Gagnon is among nine appointed managing director at the global private equity firm.

Global private equity firm Warburg Pincus has named nine new managing directors through seven promotions and two hires.

At the firm’s London office, Simon Begg, a capital markets specialist, and Paul Best from the firm’s consumer, industrial and services (CIS) team, have both been promoted from principal to managing director.

Joe Gagnon (pictured), a member of Warburg Pincus’ real estate team, and investor relations executive Yue Zhiming have also become managing directors. Both are based in the firm’s Hong Kong office.

Rounding out the internal promotions to managing director are: Ntin Nayartechnology, a technology, media and telecoms specialist based in Mumbai; Vishnu Menon, another TMT specialist working from the firm’s San Francisco operation; and Dan Zamlong, from the New York office’s CIS team.

In addition to the internal promotions, Warburg Pincus has hired Mazin Al Khatib and Somit Varma as managing directors.

Al Khatib joins the firm from Bahrain-based Investcorp, where he worked as a managing director and head of the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Levant placement and relationship teams. He will work in the firm’s London office as part of its fundraising and investor relations team.

Varma joins from the International Finance Corporation, where he was global head of the natural resources group. He will focus on energy investments and will be based in New York.
