Tan joins Macquarie

Rachel Tan, former global head of business development for real estate and private equity at French bank Société Générale, is helping expand the capital raising business at Australia’s Macquarie Group.

Rachel Tan has joined Macquarie Capital Advisors, the investment banking arm of Australia’s Macquarie Group, as the bank seeks to expand its global capital raising platform.

Tan, formerly global head of business development for real estate and private equity at France’s Société Générale Asset Management, has been handed the role of division director responsible for leading distribution in Europe for its global real estate investment banking business. She will source equity from European investors for placement into Macquarie’s principal co-investments and private funds globally as well as on behalf of third party managers.

Macquarie Capital Advisors has raised more than A$9 billion ($5.8 billion; €4.5 billion) of external equity for 14 funds since 2005.

Tan told PERE she chose to join Macquarie because of its size in real estate and infrastructure worldwide, with the private placement business ranking number one in Asia Pacific.

Macquarie is rebuilding after its real estate placement and advisory business spun out as M3 Capital Partners. At the end of last year, Macquarie sold the last of its stake in that business, allowing it to rebuild internally.
