SURS commits $75m to new real estate fund

The US-based public pension has announced a new commitment to a real estate fund following its recent board meeting.

State Universities Retirement System of Illinois has approved a $75 million commitment to GI Partners’ core plus real estate fund, GI Partners Real Estate Essential Tech + Science Fund (open-ended), it announced in a press release.

The fund opened in January 2021 and has already made its third close, on $500 million, with a primary focus on the health sector. This is a newly established relationship with GI Partners and Illinois SURS.

Illinois SURS has an allocation of 5.8 percent to real estate, below its 8 percent target. The $23.6 billion institution predominately focuses on funds situated in North America.
