Henderson plans funds for Asia property equities

The London-based asset manager is planning to invest in shares of REITs and commercial property companies in Asian markets, with Citibank China appointed to distribute the funds

London based asset manager Henderson Global Investors has a series of funds in the pipeline to invest in Asia real estate company shares.

According to reports, the firm has slated the Henderson Horizon Global Property Equities Fund, Henderson Horizon Asia-Pacific Property Equities Fund and Henderson Horizon Pan European Property Equities Fund, all of which will invest in Asia Reits and commercial property companies.

It has appointed Citibank China to be the exclusive distributor of the funds to investors.

Alexander Henderson, managing director of Henderson in Asia, said there was growing appetite for property investment among Asian investors.

Frankie Lee, head of property equities, Asia, added: “For Asia, we expect property to continue its growth in 2010, and Asian developers and landlords should continue to outperform their Western counterparts.”

He said growth in office rents and capital values, especially in the mature financial centres of Hong Kong and Singapore, were “exciting”, as was the commercial property market in Japan.
