Hawkeye hires PPR CEO

The Austin-based firm Hawkeye Partners has hired Bret Wilkerson, the former chief executive officer of research firm Property & Portfolio Research, as managing director.

Hawkeye Partners, the Austin-based private equity real estate firm, has hired the chief executive officer of Property & Portfolio Research Bret Wilkerson as managing director.

Wilkerson joins Hawkeye, which invests in emerging GP managers, in a bid to boost the firm’s activities. Co-founded by former Pension Consulting Alliance executive Claudia Faust and former head of investor services for Richard Ellis, Hawkeye has seeded a number of emerging managers through its debut vehicle, Scout Fund 1, which closed on more than $700 million of commitments in May 2007.

“Bret is a very strategic hire in terms of what we’re trying to do from a growth perspective, so we’re excited to have him on the team,” director Mike Romo told PERE.

Prior to joining Hawkeye, Wilkerson served as chief executive officer of the Boston-based research firm PPR from 2004 to 2009, after joining the company in 1995. PPR was taken over by Costar Group in July 2009.

Hawkeye Partners, founded in 2004, launched its Scout investment programme in 2006 on behalf of eight institutional investors. Among the managers Hawkeye has invested in are Jeff Kaplan’s Meadow Partners, Panattoni Development Company, Alliance Residential Company and Garrison Investment Group, originally founded by former Fortress Investment Group executives Steve Stuart and Joe Tansey.
