Former AEW Europe CIO launches new venture

A new business has been established by Ric Lewis, former chief investment officer of AEW Europe and chief executive of Curzon Global Partners. Tristan Capital Partners will continue to manage two AEW vehicles.

A European private equity real estate firm has been launched by the former chief investment officer of AEW Europe and chief executive of Curzon Global Partners.

London-based Tristan Capital Partners has been established by Ric Lewis, who set up Curzon Global Partners as AEW’s European platform in 1999. It will focus on real estate in the UK and across continental Europe.

AEW took a decision to ditch the Curzon name as part of a restructuring exercise last year. Lewis agreed to stay on and focus on managing two funds – a core plus vehicle, European Property Investors, and a higher risk, higher return fund, European Property Investors Special Opportunities.

Tristan Capital’s only current mandate is to work in joint venture with AEW to continue managing the two vehicles. However, the business will be able to launch its own funds in the future.

Lewis said in a statement: “Very significant investment opportunities are opening up across Euope due to the dislocation in the real estate markets caused by the credit crunch and the following economic downturn. The opportunities that arise in the next few years will be the best for the past 20 years.”

He said: “I intend that Tristan will be among the market leaders in capitalising on the unique chances resulting from the wholesale restructuring under way in Europe.”
