Ex-Starwood exec sets up RE firm

Merrick Kleeman has parted ways with Starwood Capital and is launching a real estate investment firm targeting the hospitality sector.

Starwood Capital’s Merrick Kleeman has left his post as senior managing director at the Greenwich, Connecticut-based firm and launched his own real estate investment firm, Edgartown Capital Partners. Starwood confirmed that Kleeman left the firm in December 2007 but declined to provide further details.

Edgartown Capital Partners told PERE it was expecting to issue a formal statement on the launch soon but declined to comment further. According to media reports however, Edgartown plans to have offices in Greenwich, Connecticut and Boston and will target investments in the hospitality sector.

Prior to joining Starwood Capital in 1992, Kleeman was employed by the investment banking division of Merrill Lynch and by Coastal Management and Consultant, a real estate investment company.
