Ex Lehman pro joins Cairn Capital

Peter Hansell, who was involved in Lehman Brothers large real estate loan conduit programme in Europe, has joined London-based fund manager Cairn Capital to run a commercial real estate debt fund.

Cairn Capital, a London advisory, asset and fund management firm, has taken on former Lehman Brothers Global Real Estate managing director Peter Hansell.

Hansell is to expand the firm’s real estate activities and run the new company’s new Ibex fund, which is specifically targeting commercial mortgage debt, said Cairn.

Prior to joining Lehman’s, Hansell ran rating agency Standard & Poor’s commercial mortgage-backed securities team in Europe and worked at the Royal Bank of Scotland for five years during the 1990s in its real estate lending division.

He joined the now bankrupt investment bank, Lehman Brothers, in 2003 and was responsible for the firm’s commercial backed securities business including the Windermere large loan conduit programme.

David Henriques, a director at Cairn, said in a statement that Hansell was joining the fund manager at an exciting time with the imminent launch of its first commercial real estate fund. The Ibex fund will take advantage of the “unprecedented opportunities” being offered in the commercial real estate debt market, he said.
