Brookfield Asset Management has made its first investor relations hire in Australia.
The New York- and Toronto-based alternative assets investment management firm announced yesterday that it had appointed Andrew Williams, formerly of UBS Investment Bank, as senior vice president and client relations manager for Brookfield’s Private Funds Group. Williams, who is based in Brookfield’s Melbourne office, started this week and will be responsible for the firm’s relationships with investors in Australia.
Brookfield’s Private Funds Group includes real estate among other alternative asset classes, including infrastructure, timberland, private equity and other speciality assets. Within the real estate part, Brookfield manages the $1.3 billion Real Estate Opportunity Fund, the $7.7 billion US Office Fund, the $1.8 billion Canadian Office Fund and the Brazil Retail Fund, the capital of which has not be disclosed.
Williams’ career to date has been grounded in real estate. He previously was a director in the real estate advisory team at UBS Investment Bank for four years, during which time he represented various real estate funds to Australian institutional investors.
Brookfield manages more than $120 billion in assets, including $13 billion in Australia.
