Angelo Gordon hires RREEF exec to lead Japan push

Jon Tanaka has been appointed managing director and head of Japan in charge of Angelo Gordon’s real estate activities in the country.

Angelo Gordon has hired former RREEF Japan managing director Jon Tanaka as it looks to increase its foothold in Japan.

The New York-based private equity real estate firm said Tanaka had been hired as managing director and head of Japan, with responsibility for Angelo Gordon’s real estate investments in the country.

Global head of real estate Keith Barket said Angelo Gordon had invested more than $800 million of equity in China and Korea since 2005, and hired Tanaka to help “step up our investment activity in Japan”.

Tanaka spent 11 years with RREEF Japan, most recently as head of portfolio management. A statement said he also served as a board member for TLDB Partners, an asset management joint venture with
Tokyu Land Corporation.

Tanaka added: “In Japan, we expect the economic dislocation caused by the financial crisis will generate attractive investment opportunities.”
