VIDEO: Investors seek gender diversity

UPS’s Judy McMahan and Carnegie Corporation of New York’s Alisa Mall explain how investors see women in real estate as a competitive advantage.

UPS real assets portfolio manager Judy McMahan and Carnegie Corporation of New York’s director of investments Alisa Mall sat down with PERE to discuss how investors think about gender diversity at asset management firms during PERE’s Women in Real Estate Forum in Los Angeles.

While not all investors list gender diversity as a requirement that must be fulfilled to invest with a manager, they believe the wider range of perspectives that it brings is a competitive advantage. Oftentimes, more diverse teams create better investment products, and in the case of retail and multifamily properties, can help a manager understand the end user better.
