Schroders hires capital raiser

The London-based global asset management company with €13 billion of real estate assets has created a new role of head of real estate capital and has hired Chris Ludlam to fill it.

Schroders Property has created a new role of head of real estate capital as it seeks to further improve on capital raising, new business development and developing strategic partnerships and joint ventures.

Schroders, which is based in London and manages around €13 billion of assets, has appointed Chris Ludlam in the position, who was formerly at AEW Europe and before that, GreenOak Real Estate. Ludlam previously also worked with Schroders global head of real estate, Duncan Owen, during a stint at Invista Real Estate Investment Management where he was head of new business. Invista Real Estate Investment Management was acquired by Palmer Capital in August 2012

Ludlam joins the company this week and will report directly to Owen. He will also take a seat on the European property executive committee.

Explaining the role further, Schroders said Ludlam would manage teams responsible for client management and reporting, investor services and fund development. Of the new hire, Owen said in a statement: “2014 has been a year of significant expansion for Schroder Property and Chris’ appointment to the newly created role of head of real estate capital is further evidence of this.”

The news comes as Schroders took in-house the management of a global real estate investment trust previously run by AMP Capital to form a new global property securities team that manages more than £1.2 billion (€1.5 billion; $2 billion) of assets. Tom Walker, who was deputy head of global listed real estate at AMP Capital, and Hugo Machin, head of European listed real estate, joined as fund managers earlier this month. The new global securities team report to Neil Turner, head of indirect property.

As part of the overhaul, Ben Foster transferred as fund analyst from Schroder Property Multi-Manager where he worked for seven years
