KKR bolsters European asset management team

Marcus Ralling has joined the New York investment management giant’s London office as head of asset management of the firm’s European portfolio.

Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, the New York-based private equity firm, has hired Marcus Ralling as a director in the firm’s real estate team.

Ralling, who joins KKR’s London office, will be responsible for the asset management of the firm’s European real estate portfolio.

He joins KKR from Pramerica, the real estate investment management arm of Prudential Financial, where he worked as managing director and head of UK and European asset management. Prior to this, Ralling was joint head of asset management at UK asset manager Threadneedle Property Investments.

“As we continue to build our real estate effort in Europe and scale our real estate portfolio, Marcus’s knowledge and experience in asset management will be of great value,” commented Guillaume Cassou, head of European real estate at KKR.

Since launching a dedicated real estate platform in 2011, KKR has committed over $2.5 billion to 50 real estate transactions in the US, Europe and Asia as of September 30.

Most recently in Europe, the firm invested €48 million in two hotels in Antwerp, Belgium.

KKR acquired the Radisson Blu Astrid Hotel, a four-star hotel with 247 rooms, and the Park Inn Hotel, a three-star boutique with 59 rooms, as part of a joint venture with European hotel group Algonquin back in June.
