Indiana Public Retirement System has approved a $100 million commitment to Abacus Multi-Family Partners VI, according to materials from their June 24th Board of Trustees meeting.

Abacus Capital Group launched the sixth-series real estate vehicle in April 2022, seeking $1.25 billion in investor capital. A first close for the fund was held at $618 million, having attracted attention from 18 private and HNW investors. The fund will acquire multifamily assets in the US, adding value through physical property improvements, operational turnarounds or development opportunities.

Indiana PRS currently allocates 7.6 percent of its investment portfolio to private real estate, comprising $3.41 billion in capital. The $44.89 public pension has an undisclosed target allocation to the asset class.

As illustrated below, Indiana PRS’s recent private real estate commitments have tended to focus on North American vehicles that invest under a value-add strategy.
