Hodes Weill rebuilds Euro platform with hire – Exclusive

Three months after two of the capital advisory boutiques senior executives left to join property services firm JLL, Hodes Weill has brought in the first of two replacements.

Hodes Weill & Associates, the private real estate capital advisory firm, has recruited Jonathan Read as principal in its London office in a move to rebuild its presence in Europe.

Read will be looking after the firm’s institutional clients in Europe. He joins from New York-based alternatives investor Angelo, Gordon & Co, where he was a director and was responsible for raising capital from institutional investors in EMEA for a range of strategies and sectors.

His appointment sees Hodes Weill begin to plug a hole left by the departures of former managing directors, Matilde Attolico and Zeynep Fetvaci, who joined the capital markets team at Chicago-headquartered property services giant JLL in March. While at Hodes Weill, Attolico was responsible for coverage of institutional investors in Europe (ex-the Netherlands) and the Middle East, while Fetvaci was also responsible for coverage of institutional investors in Europe.

Since then the firm had been working on replacements to re-bolster the firm’s European operations, which are headed up by partner Will Rowson.

“With Jonathan’s diverse experience in capital raising, we look forward to the expertise and the relationships that he will bring to help drive our growth, working with our clients across Europe,” said Rowson.

“Institutions remain highly selective in allocating capital to new investments and only managers or developers with the best strategies and track records are able to successfully fundraise at this time of the cycle,” Rowson added.

Prior to his role at Angelo, Gordon, Read was a member of the London-based capital introduction team at JP Morgan, supporting hedge fund clients across investor marketing advice and consultancy services. He has also previously worked at Wachovia Securities and Schroders, both in New York.

“Hodes Weill has built an impressive position as advisors and institutional capital raisers for some of the top performing fund managers across the industry,” Read said. “With continuing market changes and ever evolving opportunities, I look forward to building on Hodes Weill’s position as leaders in its field,” he added.

Some of Hodes Weill's recent clients include New York-based private equity firm Cerberus Capital; London-based private equity firm GreenOak Real Estate; and Toronto-based investment manager Bentall Kennedy.
