Hodes Weill makes new senior hire

The New York-based real estate advisory firm has recruited the former New York head of Triton Pacific as its seventh principal.

Hodes Weill & Associates has hired Scott Arden, formerly a managing director at Triton Pacific Capital, as principal. He will be based in New York and will be joining Hodes Weill in April, following a three-month gardening leave.

Arden will be responsible for covering institutional investors in North America, along with co-founder and managing partner David Hodes, partner Susan Swanezy and principal Matt Hershey. He will be the seventh principal and the first senior hire at the firm since Hershey and Matilde Attolico, a principal based in its London office, joined in 2012.

“The addition of Scott Arden further expands our global coverage of the institutional market as capital flows to the real estate sector continue to accelerate,” Hodes said in a statement. “We are delighted to have someone with Scott’s experience and credibility joining the firm.”

Arden had served for more than a year as managing director at Triton Pacific, where he opened and headed the Los Angeles-based advisory and placement firm’s New York office and represented clients such as RockBridge Capital and Cobalt Capital Partners. Robert Davis, Triton Pacific’s founder and chief executive, told PERE that he expects to hire two new senior managing directors who likely would serve as co-heads of the New York office over the next couple of months. Additionally, he noted that the firm is considering opening a new location in London.

Prior to Triton Pacific, Arden was a director at MVision Private Equity Advisers, where he was one of three dedicated real estate professionals at the firm and raised capital on behalf of private equity real estate funds targeting investments in the US, Latin America, Asia and Europe. Before working at MVision, he was an associate at JT Partners, where he sourced and placed capital for real estate funds globally.

Hodes Weill was founded in 2009 by Hodes and Doug Weill, previously co-heads of Credit Suisse’s real estate private fund group. Today, the firm has 19 professionals in New York, London and Hong Kong and raises institutional capital for funds, transactions, co-investments and separate accounts, as well as M&A, strategic and restructuring advisory services. Most recently, Hodes Weill served as placement agent for Rialto Capital Management’s Rialto Real Estate Debt Fund II and Mapletree Investments’ Mapletree China Opportunity Fund II. The firm also advised on Ares Management’s acquisition of AREA Property Partners, one of the biggest industry takeovers to occur last year.
