GRESB data tracks real estate’s net-zero evolution

While global real estate is making progress in its decarbonization journey, it faces an uphill battle to meet the ultimate target by 2050.

The below chart illustrates the average level of decarbonization ambition that portfolio mangers need to target in order to actualize net-zero commitments or align with a 2C temperature rise goal. While the GRESB European portfolio projection results in ‘stranding’ by 2029 and 2038 under the 1.5C and 2C decarbonization pathways, respectively, there is a wide distribution in the ‘stranding’ dates of the underlying portfolios and assets. Many of the underlying assets already exceed the intensity limits of their property type- and country-specific decarbonization pathways.
