Headwinds, both of the economic and political ilk, are gaining momentum – think the prospect of rising interest rates, growing populism, potential trade wars and slowing global economic growth. These all merit some twitchiness as investment strategies are contemplated in the months ahead. And the first signs, albeit subtle, of investor caution, are revealed in the PERE Investor Perspectives 2019 survey – for example, only 16 percent of respondents report they intend to increase allocations to private real estate in 2019.
But there are also plenty of positive themes emerging to whet investor appetites: rapid urbanization, population growth, the march of e-commerce. These are creating demand for more homes, offices and logistics space. In short, investment opportunity.
