DOWNLOAD: Private real estate’s biggest capitalizers

Welcome to the Global Investor 100, PERE’s annual ranking of the asset class's top institutional investors, based on the market value of their private real estate investment portfolios.

This year PERE has published its biggest institutional investor ranking yet, showcasing the sector’s top 100 names, up from the 50 listed in 2018 and 2019.

Collectively, those ranked committed $1.4 trillion to private real estate in the last 12 months. There are few surprises at the top of the list where sovereign wealth fund Abu Dhabi Investment Authority takes first place for the sixth straight year, followed by Allianz Real Estate in second and APG in third.

By category of institution, public pension funds dominate the Global Investor 100, accounting for 53 percent of the list. Insurers are the second most prolific, making up 25 percent. In regional terms, North America-headquartered investors contribute the most cash to private real estate – $552 billion – although those based in Europe are not too far behind, having allocated $521 billion in the past 12 months.
