Crowdfunding real estate firm lures ex-Colony Europe head

The London-based real estate investment firm, which raises its capital from crowdfunding, has hired Jean Romain Lhomme to help grow its institutional-grade property portfolio.

BrickVest, the London-based real estate investment crowdfunding platform, has appointed Jean Romain Lhomme, former head of Colony Capital Europe, to its board in a move designed to further expand the firm’s presence in the real estate world.

Lhomme, the firm said, will help BrickVest develop its institutional-quality investment offerings while also helping to build the firm’s online real estate investment portfolios. He became known to the firm after being the lead investor in its current fundraising round.

Lhomme co-headed Colony Capital Europe, the European arm of US investment firm Colony Capital, from 2000 to 2015, where he was responsible for the identification, valuation, execution and monitoring of European investments. As an active technology business angel since 2015, he co-founded PJX10, a laboratory dedicated to innovative startups, with technology entrepreneurs.

BrickVest was founded two years ago by Emmanuel Lumineau, who is also chief executive officer, and Thomas Schneider, who is also chief investment officer. Since inception it has partnered with some well-known names in private real estate, such as Corestate Capital and M7 Real Estate.

“Jean-Romain’s considerable experience in building and managing first class real estate investment platforms and dealing with institutional investors is invaluable in helping BrickVest to grow,” said Lumineau. “We continue to combine best practices of institutional quality investing in real estate with cutting edge technology and first class governance that puts the investor first,” he added.

Lhomme joins an experienced team which earlier this year was joined by Remi Antonini, former head of real estate research at New York investment bank Goldman Sachs and at London-based private investment firm Exane Group. He also worked as head of BrickVest Ratings, BrickVest’s institutional investment rating program.

“I joined BrickVest because of its potential in a growing sector like proptech. I was really impressed by the founding team and its extensive experience in real estate, investment services and technology. BrickVest not only merges all of this experience, but it does so in a way that has shifted the model of how to invest in real estate across the globe,” said Lhomme.

BrickVest’s platform allows investors to invest in institutional grade commercial real estate opportunities with the ease of an online trading platform. Investors can access real estate that previously was only accessible to large institutions such as pension funds and insurance companies.
