Climate Change Capital appoints real estate pros

A double appointment points towards Climate Change Capital setting up a real estate vehicle for the first time.

Climate Change Capital, an investment bank focussed on clean energy and a low carbon economy, has appointed Esme Lowe and Tim Mockett as property investment managers.

The move is seen by the real estate market as a sure sign that the firm is launching a property fund for the first time to invest in low carbon buildings.

Lowe joins from Capital Trust, a property investment management firm overseeing approximately £300 million of assets; Mockett joins from Stow Securities where he created a £200 million (€268 million; $390 million) portfolio of mixed-use, office and retail properties.

Mark Woodall, chief executive officer of Climate Change Capital, said: “The value of commercial property will increasingly be driven by sustainability and climate change issues. The move to create low carbon buildings will accelerate, and both occupiers and investors will drive this shift motivated by the desire to reduce energy costs, corporate social responsibility, brand value and the need to future-proof their properties.”

He added: “We continue to widen our offering and pursue opportunities that will both deliver real returns to our investors, value-add to our clients and continued commercial success.”

The firm has around $1.5 billion of assets under management within a series of funds investing in companies promoting a low carbon economy and reducing green house gases.

The firm has a representative office in Beijing to exploit opportunities in China as well as offices in London and Madrid.
