Charter Hall appoints first CIO

The Sydney-based fund manager has hired former Frasers Property executive Sean McMahon for the newly-created role.

Sydney-listed real estate fund manager Charter Hall Group has named Sean McMahon its first chief investment officer.

McMahon has more than 25 years' property and financial experience having held senior positions in major listed and private operations – most recently as chief investment officer of Frasers Property Australia – and will start the new role on August 2016.

McMahon will be responsible for Charter Hall's strategy, mergers and acquisitions, corporate development and transactions and will join the firm's executive leadership group.

Established in 1991 Charter Hall has become one of Australia's largest property groups, with a total managed property portfolio of A$15.9 billion. The firm owns and manages 294 commercial properties around Australia, including office buildings, supermarket anchored retail centers, and a  stable of industrial assets, on behalf of institutional, wholesale and retail investors.
