In 2013, funds greater than $1 billion closed on $63.2 billion in aggregate capital raised. For the first time since the global financial crisis, funds larger than $1 billion accounted for over 50% of the capital raised by funds closed in the year. Just in the last quarter, 14 funds with totals over $1 billion were closed, including one fund with a size over $5 billion.
A few of the $1 billion-plus funds closed in Q4 2013 include Orion European Real Estate Fund IV managed by Orion Capital Managers with €1.3 billion in commitments, KKR Real Estate Partners Americas managed by KKR with $1.5 billion, and Cerberus Institutional Real Estate Partners III managed by Cerberus Capital Management with $1.4 billion in commitments.
