With LPs opting for larger fund managers in 2013, diversified global strategies have been most popular while North American focused funds have attracted the next largest amount of investor capital. Six of the top 10 funds raised in 2013 had a global focus.

There was little activity in Latin America, the Middle East, or Africa, however the amount of capital raised in the Asia-Pacific region has steadily increased since 2010. Investors have shown more confidence in the Asia-Pacific region to the extent that many of the markets in the region are no longer considered “emerging”. The largest three funds raised for the Asia-Pacific region in 2013 were Alpha Asia Macro Trends Fund II managed by Alpha Investment Partners with $1.65 billion in commitments, Secured Capital Real Estate Partners V managed by Secured Capital Japan with $1.5 billion, and China Logistics Fund I managed by Global Logistic Properties also with $1.5 billion in commitments.
