CBRE Cap adds Barsily to raise US capital

The investment banking arm of CBRE in the Americas has appointed industry veteran Brad Barsily to build up its capital raising platform in the US.

Brad Barsily has joined CBRE Capital Advisors, the independent investment banking arm of CBRE in the US, as a senior managing director in order to head capital raising for the Americas. He will be based in New York and report to executive managing director Imran Ahmed.

Barsily told PERE that he was brought in for the newly created position to strengthen and add breadth to institutional investor relationships at the advisory firm. “I had known Imran for a while and he approached me because CBRE Capital Advisors had a need in their business model in terms of raising institutional capital in the US,” said Barsily.

He added that his duties for the capital raising platform will be focused on separate accounts, joint ventures and recapitalizations for third party clients, as well as open and closed-end funds. He will work on US deals as well as global deals with international clients looking to raise US capital.

Barsily, who has been in the business for more than 15 years, most recently worked with Philadelphia-based real estate investment management firm Rubenstein Partners as director of institutional markets and investor services. Prior to Rubenstein, he worked as senior vice president at Los Angeles-based fund managers CIM Group and CityView. Previously, he also served as a principal at New York-based placement agent Atlantic-Pacific Capital.
