CarVal adds former AREA director

The Minneapolis-based alternative investment manager has appointed David Christie as its new director of European real estate.

Minneapolis-based alternative investment manager CarVal Investors has added David Christie for the newly created post as director of European real estate. In his new role, Christie focuses on investment and asset management of properties in the UK and is based in the firm’s London office. 

Christie has 18 years of experience in the commercial real estate industry. Most recently, he served as the head of asset management for Europe at AREA Property Partners (now Ares Management). Prior to joining AREA, he oversaw asset management of investments in Germany, Italy and Scandinavia for Doughty Hanson and directly managed a €2 billion portfolio of London assets at Quinlan Private (now Avestus Real Estate).

CarVal’s European real estate team focuses on the office, industrial, residential and retail sectors in the UK and France. The firm’s recent investments in the UK include the acquisition of three Stockley Park office properties, the development of London properties such as Moorgate Exchange and 100 Cheapside and the redevelopment of Interchange in Croydon. Currently, CarVal has approximately $9 billion in assets under management in both credit and real estate strategies.
