Capital Dynamics opens in Rio

The global asset management and advisory firm aims to ramp up direct investments in Latin America, including clean energy infrastructure deals.

Capital Dynamics has opened an office in Rio de Janeiro to expand its reach into Latin America. It plans to particularly target  direct investment opportunities like co-investment and clean energy deals, accordign to a statement.

The opening follows Capital Dynamic's mid-June presentation of its Clean Energy and Infrastructure (CEI) investment strategy. In it, the firm said it viewed clean energy as an “emerging asset class” in its own right and said it would be pursuing a direct investment strategy that will target the wind, solar, biomass and landfill gas sectors among other possible areas

The 22-year-old firm noted that Brazil was an “important business centre” from which it plans to strengthen its relationships with the region’s private equity firms.

“Opening a new office in Brazil highlights our expectations for growth, as we are quite bullish on the region’s abundant opportunities, as well as our commitment to the region,” Thomas Kubr, chief executive of Capital Dynamics, said in a statement.

The Rio office, for which regulatory approvals are still pending, marks Capital Dynamics’ seventh office worldwide. The firm is headquartered in Zug, Switzerland and has managed and advised on more than $21 billion in private equity and real estate funds since 1988.
