AXA appoints US head

The Paris-based insurance firm announces Olivier Thoral as head of North America real estate as it looks to grow its global footprint.

AXA Real Estate has continued its US expansion with the appointment of Olivier Thoral as head of its North America business.

The Paris-based firm, which manages around €39.5 billion of property assets globally, said Thoral would start immediately and would be responsible for “growing new business opportunities” for AXA Real Estate in the North American region, as well as “coordinating” its US activities and clients globally.

Thoral has worked at AXA Real Estate for more than ten years in corporate finance and opportunistic fund management, deal sourcing and execution. He will be based at AXA Real Estate’s US headquarters in New York and will report to Pierre Vaquier, chief executive officer.

In June this year AXA Real Estate’s launched a US distribution platform as part of its US drive.

The appointment of Thoral is AXA Real Estate’s second senior appointment in the region, following Elizabeth Behnke’s appointment as US head of sales and investor relations, also in June.

Vaquier called the appointment a “key step forward” in its drive to expand its presence in the US. “We see significant opportunity both to grow the base of US clients investing into AXA Real Estate’s European funds, as well as launch new products in the region. Olivier’s extensive experience in fund management, together with Elisabeth’s intricate knowledge of the US real estate industry, means that we are strongly positioned to achieve our ambitions for US growth.”
