Aviva hires Aiken as business development head in Asia

The global asset management business of UK insurer Aviva has bolstered the ranks of its real estate platform in Asia with the hire of ex-Macquarie Capital man Benjamin Aiken.

Aviva Investors, the global asset management business of UK insurer Aviva, has appointed Benjamin Aiken as its head of business development for its real estate platform in Asia.

Aiken joins from Macquarie Capital Advisors, the advisory and capital raising division of Australian bank Macquarie.

Reporting to Aviva Investor’s Asia real estate chief executive Ian Hally, he will be responsible for developing relationships with Aviva’s investors and advisors with a view to growing the firm’s presence in the region.

Hally said of his new hire: “Asia Pacific Real Estate is one of the growth markets for Aviva Investors’ institutional business. As such, we are keen to continue building our real estate presence and establish a solid foothold in Asia Pacific and I’m confident that Ben will help us in achieving our goals.”

“He brings an intimate understanding of the region, having worked extensively in Asia-Pacific for over 16 years and has a successful track record in building up new institutional client relationships.”

At Macquarie Capital, where he has worked since 2003, Aiken was a director and most recently led its private capital markets function for its infrastructure advisory team in Asia from its Hong Kong office. Before that he was focused on its real estate activities and was based in Sydney. He previously also worked for BT Financial Group, the Australian wealth management firm.
