Angelo Gordon taps ex-Societe Generale exec

Phillip Filippelis joins as managing director to lead the firm's operations in Australia and New Zealand.

Angelo Gordon has hired former Societe Generale Asset Management executive Philip Filippelis as managing director to lead its operations in Australia.

Filippelis was formerly head of institutional business in Australia and South East Asia for Societe Generale and its affiliate, Trust Company of the West (TCW).

According to local media reports, Filippelis marketed Societe Generales mortgage-backed securities, mezzanine debt and US equities products and took voluntary redundancy in July when the firm, together with Credit Agricole, merged to become Amundi Asset Management. He had been with the firm for about eight years.

Filippelis will be based in Angelo Gordon's new office in Sydney and help expand its investor base in Australia and New Zealand.

“As part of our efforts to expand our firm’s investor base internationally, we are excited to have Phil join us,” said John Angelo, chief executive officer of Angelo Gordon.
