Aberdeen hires ex-ING RE Select man

The global asset management business appoints Justin Kean from ING Real Estate Select to work on approximately €300 million of mandates.


Aberdeen Asset Management has hired Justin Kean as a portfolio manager in its European property multi-manager team. He started in the role yesterday.

Based at the firm’s Amsterdam office and reporting to co-head of Europe Karin Koks, Kean is charged with managing a portfolio of European property funds and will assist in the management of about €300 million of mandates.

He becomes one of Aberdeen’s 31-strong global multi-manager business.

Kean is one of a number of professionals to leave ING Real Estate Select in the wake of CBRE’s takeover of ING REIM.

Other departures from ING Select included Mark Bunney, Matt Day and Tony Yu, managers from its Osiris Property Fund, who left in October.

Kean also follows former colleague Katherine Giordano, who joined from ING Real Estate Select last November. US-focussed Giordano was hired as an indirect property portfolio managers.

Aberdeen Asset Management invests in real estate both directly and via multi-manager platforms and has approximately $34 billion of assets under management across vehicles including segregated accounts, open-ended and closed-ended funds.
